Home Oceans Management Oceans Program Activity Tracking (OPAT) About the OPAT ApplicationThe map-based version of OPAT uses the Autodesk MapGuide® Viewer to allow working with maps interactively. It provides a visual basis of information by taking advantage of current Geographic Information Systems (GIS)1 technology. Using this map-based version, the user can zoom in and out of specific areas, select specific features and produce a map showing customized information displayed in a whole new way. After you have worked with the map and the data to specify what you want to display, you can copy the map into a report or print it, giving your reports and presentations greater impact and clarity. Please visit our background page for more related information. Further information and a demonstration of the system functionalities can be found on the Autodesk MapGuide® Viewer webpage. 1 Definition of GIS: a computer system capable of assembling, storing, manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information, i.e. data identified according to their locations. Organization of Interactive LayersThe left-hand interactive legend allows the user to select information layers that can be viewed on the base map. Layers are like transparencies that can be stacked and viewed at one time, or viewed separately. For example, a specific data set such as cities can be "turned on" or "turned off". Various different layers can also be selected to produce a single map displaying all of the selected data sets. Certain data layers within OPAT which are too small to view at national scale (full map of Canada), only become available at a higher map scale. For example, only capital cities can be viewed at the national scale. However, zooming into a specific area will result in additional cities displayed on the map. (see OPAT User Guide) A popup menu appears when the user clicks the right button on their mouse (referred to as "right-clicking") anywhere in the map. After the user right-clicks to display the map window popup menu, clicking one of the items in the menu will chose the specific command. Items with a right arrow next to it (such as Print), indicate that a secondary popup menu will appear. For a more detailed help reference using the plug-in, please visit the Autodesk MapGuide® Viewer help page. |
