Honorable Lucienne Robillard

Biography

Welcome to the reorganized and expanded Intergovernmental Affairs web site.

It is intended to be a resource for everyone interested in federal-provincial-territorial collaboration and the major issues that shape the unity of our country. How did we become a federation of ten provinces and three territories? How do our federal, provincial and territorial governments work together to respond to the needs of Canadians? What are the other federations in the world and how do they work?

These are just some of the questions addressed in this new version of the site. As you browse through the sections you will become aware of the far-reaching and multi-faceted collaboration between governments in this country: in fact, a vast array of federal-provincial-territorial agreements have been reached. The Intergovernmental Relations by Sector section provides an overview of these agreements and, where electronically possible, the actual texts.

The site is also meant to provide food for thought and to contribute to the debate on the evolution of our federation, a debate which is essential to the vitality of our democracy. I invite you to consult the different sections of the site to learn, among other things, about the state of past and present Canadian federal-provincial-territorial relations and about federations world-wide.

I hope you find the information and the links on our site useful and that you visit often since we will be updating it regularly with new material.

Happy surfing!
