The Honourable Don Boudria Named Chair of the Steering Committee for the Jeux de la Francophonie

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced that he has named the Honourable Don Boudria, Minister of State and Leader of the Government in the House, as Chair of the Steering Committee for the organization of the Fourth Jeux de la Francophonie, to be held in Ottawa-Hull in 2001.

As Chair of the Steering Committee, Mr. Boudria will preside over the meetings of the Committee, which brings together political representatives of the various orders of government involved in the organization of the Games. He will also be the Federal government's spokesperson for the games in Canada and will work closely with the other two ministers involved, the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honourable Sheila Copps, and the Minister of International Co-operation and Minister Responsible for La Francophonie, the Honourable Diane Marleau.
