Archival Holdings in the Regions

National Archives holdings of archival records of the federal government are also found in four locations outside Ottawa. Please note that archival records from earlier regional accessions were transferred to Ottawa and as such, descriptions for Ottawa held records should also be considered in your search.

Vancouver Office

Researchers are required to make an appointment prior to visiting the Vancouver Office.

The Vancouver Office of the National Archives is located within the Pacific Region Federal Records Centre (PRFRC). Its holdings consist of archival records generated by federal departments in British Columbia and the Yukon.

The Vancouver Office is open weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm (closed 12  - 1 pm) for researchers with an appointment. On-site services include reference assistance for those wishing to conduct research using search tools which describe the holdings of the National Archives in Vancouver and consultation services for these records.

The PRFRC is located at 2751 Production Way in Burnaby, B.C. at the base of Burnaby Mountain below Simon Fraser University. The Vancouver Office can be reached from Vancouver via Hwy 1 using the Gaglardi Exit, or via public transit including the new sky train line (Production Way Station). Ample free parking is available.

Edmonton Office

Archival holdings are maintained by the National Archives within the Prairies Northwest Region Federal Records Centre. These holdings consist of government archival records generated by federal departments in Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

Reference inquiries pertaining to these holdings should be directed to the Vancouver Office.



Winnipeg Office

Researchers are required to make an appointment prior to visiting the Winnipeg Office.

The Winnipeg Office of the National Archives is located within the Manitoba Region Federal Records Centre (MRFRC). Its holdings consist of government archival records generated by federal departments principally in Manitoba and North-Western Ontario.

The Winnipeg Office is open weekdays 9 am to 4 pm (closed 12  - 1 pm) for researchers with an appointment. On-site services include reference assistance for those wishing to conduct research using search tools which describe the holdings of the National Archives in Winnipeg and consultation services for these records.

The MRFRC is located at 1700 Inkster Boulevard, between McPhillips and Keewatin. Ample free parking is available.

Halifax Office

Archival holdings are maintained by the National Archives within the Atlantic Region Federal Records Centre. These holdings consist of government archival records generated by federal departments in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

Reference inquiries pertaining to these holdings should be directed to Reference Services in Ottawa.
