News ReleaseFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OTTAWA, September 8, 2003 - "Preservation Quest," a free Open House on preserving electronic records, will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2003, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa. It is designed to give the public expert advice on preserving home videos, cassettes, CDs, vinyl recordings, digital photographs, computer files, and more. How can such records be preserved for use by our grandchildren? Will rapidly changing technologies make it impossible to play and view these records in the future? There will be a keynote address by popular McGill Univerity professor Dr. Joe Schwarcz , lectures, films, kiosks, activities for children, and tours of an audio conservation studio. Refreshments will be provided. The Open House will be followed by an international symposium on preserving electronic records, from September 15 to 18, also at Library and Archives Canada. Both events are being organized by the Canadian Conservation Institute, Library and Archives Canada and the Canadian Heritage Information Network. - 30 - For more information: |
