ON MAY 18, CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL
MUSEUM DAY!

International Museum Day has been celebrated all over the world since 1977. This year, the International Council of Museums (ICOM), has selected Museums Bridging Cultures as the theme for 2005. Canada's 30 million inhabitants reflect a cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity found nowhere else on earth. Our museums work with cultural communities to build sources of knowledge that will help us understand and articulate the many cultural communities that make up our country's history and pluralistic landscape. Our museums do their part to safeguard, increase awareness and promote the diverse heritage of Canadian society when they mount exhibitions that bring collections to life.

You can get involved in Canada's dynamic museum community. To find a museum in your community or area, visit the Museums and Events page on the Virtual Museum of Canada (VMC) Web site. While at the web site, take a virtual tour of Canada's heritage. Dinosaur fossils, the travels of Samuel de Champlain, a deckchair from the Titanic, and hundreds of other interesting artefacts and exhibitions from Canada's museums can be found on the VMC Web site.
