Policies and Strategy

In 2001, the International Francophonie Directorate (IFD) set up a special unit to identify trends and new niches in international, cultural relations for Canadian action in the International Francophonie. The Policy and Strategy Elaboration team is focusing on issues related to the promotion of diversity, including linguistic diversity, and culture as a tool for development. It also evaluates current relations and explores the feasability of the establishment of new relations between La Francophonie and other international linguistic organizations, including the Arab League, the Organization of Ibero-American States, the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries, the Secretariat for Ibero-American Cooperation, and the Latin Union. Finally, the Policy and Strategy Elaboration team also coordinates the strategic orientations and research activities of the International Francophonie Directorate (IFD).

[translation] "Cultural and linguistic areas undoubtedly constitute rich venues of solidarity which, once they come together and exchange, are the best promoters of democracy, peace and development."

Mr. Boutros Boutros-Ghali
Former Secretary-General of
the International Francophonie Organization
