Did you know?The first dictionary was published in Canada in 1635. In which two languages?Huron and French. The author? It is thought that it was Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuit missionary in the Georgian Bay area of Ontario. Do you know what TERMIUM is? It's a data bank filled with linguistic data belonging to the Government of Canada. It contains more than three million French and English terms...about EVERYTHING. TERMIUM is available on CD-ROM. The station is well-known throughout the Francophone world and enjoys an excellent reputation. Canada is not the only country to have two official languages. One in four countries has more than one official language, including Switzerland, Belgium, Finland. The LeBlancs of North America all derive from the same ancestor, Daniel LeBlanc, who came to Port-Royal in 1640. This family has the largest line of descendants of all Acadian families. Today the LeBlancs and Whites number at least 500,000. One very important person has that name: The Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc, former Governor General of Canada. The very successful writer Nancy Huston was born in Saskatchewan and learned to speak French as a second language. She currently lives in France where she writes in French. Related Information
