Trade Team Canada Environment Urban Sustainability Mission to China, February 27 to March 10, 2006

Maximize Your Success in the Chinese Market!

Join the Trade Team Canada Environment Urban Sustainability Mission to China 2006 and seize the opportunity to expand your markets, showcase your products, increase your sales and meet foreign buyers and key decision makers. For the third consecutive year, Trade Team Canada Environment (TTCE), in partnership with the Canadian Trade Commissioner Services in China, provincial governments and industry associations will lead the environmental trade mission to China from February 27th to March 10th, 2006.

China’s unprecedented urbanization is generating tremendous environmental concerns that create significant business opportunities for those that can bring innovative solutions targeting Urban Sustainability. Our mission will focus on climate change technologies, air pollution control and waste management (including hazardous waste, industrial waste control, wastewater and agriculture waste). Participation is not limited to these sectors and all environmental companies with a business interest in China are invited to apply.

As part of this dynamic mission, delegates will participate in business briefings, technical workshops, showcasing opportunities, one-on-one meetings, networking events, and site visits.  From the moment you join, all activities will be tailored to your business needs to maximize your success in each one of the cities on the itinerary.

The TTCE mission to China will visit the following cities:

February 27- 28:  Hong Kong
March 1- 2:   Guangzhou
March 3 and 6: Shanghai
March 7- 8:    Chongqing
March 9- 10:     Beijing

Who Should Participate

  • Export-ready environmental companies and professionals with a business interest in China
  • Canadian environmental companies already active in the region seeking to expand and strengthen their commercial ties

Why China

Today, China is emerging as the world’s fastest growing market for environmental solutions. Since the process of economic reforms went underway more than twenty-five years ago, China’s economy has grown significantly and is expected to remain strong with gross domestic product (GDP) rising by 9.1 percent in 2005, 8.1 percent in 2006 and quadrupling by 2020. Projections show that China will become the world’s largest economy by 2025 and its population of 1.3 billion is expected to continue to increase over this period.  This rapid growth coupled with strengthened environmental legislation and recent reductions in trade barriers resulting from China's accession to the World Trade Organization, make China a very attractive market for Canadian companies providing environmental solutions.

As a country that now ranks third among world importers after the U.S. and Japan, China offers significant potential to Canadian exporters and is key to ensuring their competitiveness in the global marketplace.

What You Can Expect From the Mission

  • The opportunity to expand your markets and increase sales through networking events with prospective buyers, joint venture partners, decision makers and key partners in China and Canada
  • First-hand understanding of the Chinese market, of the competition, and of viable strategies
  • Increased visibility of your company through showcasing opportunities to potential clients of your products or services
  • Opportunities to establish relationships for future sales, contracts, distributor agreements, or joint ventures
  • An opportunity to participate in a dialogue with the World Bank and Asian Development Bank officers responsible for projects in China.
  • An invitation to participate in follow-up activities (i.e. workshops and networking events focused on China at Globe 2006)
  • The opportunity to network with Canadian businesses active in the region
