Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival Promises Fun for All Ages

Best Event The Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival began in 1996 and has grown into the "Largest Kitchen Parties in Atlantic Canada" boasting Good Friends, Good Times, Good Music and Lots of World Famous Prince Edward Island Shellfish. This year marks an important milestone, with the Festival celebrating it’s 10th year anniversary. It promises to be the biggest party ever!!

From gourmet chefs to celebrity cooks; first time oyster tasters to world-class oyster shuckers, the Festival promises to entertain and educate people of all ages. With Maritime Music as the key ingredient, this year’s entertainment line-up will feature Aaron Pritchett & Chris Cummings, PEI’s own fiddling sensation & East Coast Music Award Winner, Richard Wood, Boys in The Kitchen, Celtic Ladies, Boys of Summer, Radio Beauties and a Traditional Kitchen Party Jam featuring Kendra MacGilvary & Friends.

What’s an Island Kitchen Party without great food? Tempt your taste buds with the culinary delights of the chefs & students of The Culinary Institute of Canada, one of the premiere culinary schools in Canada. A new feature of this year’s Festival, The Culinary Institute of Canada Food Pavilion will offer interactive Shellfish Culinary Demos daily on the Demo Stage. Food Stations will be located in the Food Pavilion, providing visitors with the opportunity to purchase these culinary delights.

The Festival Main Tent Menu features PEI Seafood Chowder, freshly steamed PEI Mussels & Clams and renowned PEI Oysters & Quahogs. Full bar service is also available.

For those serious about seafood chowder, the festival hosts the Paderno PEI Chowder Championship and the Milk International Chowder Championship. Sample these unique chowder dishes as they are served up during each challenge and you be the judge by choosing your own personal favorite.

Oyster Shuckers If it is oysters you are searching for, be sure to attend the Raspberry Point PEI Oyster Shucking Championship and J.P.'s Shellfish Eastern Canadian Oyster Shucking Championship. Competitors from across North America will amaze the crowd with their skill and speed as they compete against some of the world’s best oyster shuckers. Or try your hand at shucking oysters! If you have ever wanted to learn how to shuck oysters like a pro? Then join us at the Keep on Shucking with Frank’s RedHot® Oyster Shucking Demos taking place during the Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival!

Other festival weekend highlights include the Go Deep International Tie One On Mussel Competition, the International PEI Shellfish Chef Challenge, The World is Your Oyster free children’s program, the Atlantic Veterinary College Marine Touch Tank, Peake’s Wharf Boat Cruises with guided tours and shellfish and much more.
