Mark your calendars for 2006!  CSTD annual conference November 6-8, 2006

Where permitted, conference speaker slides have been posted.

This year’s CSTD national conference and trade show, which took place last week in Toronto, was a smashing success!

Close to 600 delegates from across Canada and abroad spent four days learning about the latest trends and developments in workplace learning and performance from such luminaries as Donald Kirkpatrick, Jack Phillips and Dana Gaines Robinson. To access conference presentations, visit www.cstd.ca/conference/detailed_program.html. Before you can view or download presentation material, you will be prompted for your member username and password. If you do not have this, please e-mail us at member@cstd.ca.

The trade show featured more than 100 exhibitors who demonstrated leading edge solutions. And CSTD honoured excellence and innovation in the field at the President’s Dinner where we presented the annual Canadian Awards for Training Excellence to four winners – the Ontario Service Safety Alliance, Alias and Knightsbridge GSW, Mental Health Works, and Hydro One Networks and Provinent (now VitesseLearning) – and seven honourable mention recipients.

Also at the dinner, attendees heard a powerful and inspirational address from Stephen Lewis, this year’s winner of the CSTD President’s Award. Mr. Lewis painted a stark picture of the misery and inhumane conditions faced by those who are stricken by HIV/AIDS in Africa. He also called out to workplace learning and performance professionals to lend their expertise to help make a positive difference in the lives of many. The CSTD board and many conference delegates have since expressed an interest in responding to Mr. Lewis’ call. For more on CSTD’s plans in this regard, please read the next item below.

For those of you planning ahead to next year, circle Nov. 6-8 on your calendars for the 2006 edition of the CSTD conference and trade show. We look forward to seeing you there!

Help make a difference in Africa

In response to Stephen Lewis’ call for workplace learning and performance professionals to help make a difference in Africa, the CSTD board passed a resolution to establish a special committee chaired by Peter Taylor, President of the Durham Chapter. The committee will work to identify ways in which CSTD and its members can work with the Stephen Lewis Foundation to advance the cause of those living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please contact Peter Taylor at peter@pstaylor.com.
