The Prime Minister’s Advisory Council on Science and Technology was created on July 5,
1996. The Council’s role is to review Canada’s performance in
research and innovation, identify emerging issues of national concern, and advise on a
forward-looking agenda with a view to positioning Canada in an international context.
The members of the Council are eminent Canadians representing different sectors of
business, academia, and research institutions, and come from across Canada. In carrying
out their role, the members provide expert, non-partisan advice to the Prime Minister.
