Trade Data Online

ABOUT THIS SITE

Purpose of the Site

This site provides customs-based statistics on international trade in goods to help you:

  • Find new export markets;
  • Determine competition for your products;
  • Identify domestic opportunities for import replacement;
  • Analyse the Canadian domestic market for industries in the manufacturing sector.

Source data is obtained from Statistics Canada and from the U.S. Census Bureau, then repackaged for online use by Canada's business community, policy makers and the academic community.

No information on "Trade in services" is available on this site.

Trade Data Online is an integral part of Strategis : Canada's Business and Consumer Site created and maintained by Industry Canada.

Navigation

Trade Data Online is comprised of two independent modules that can always be accessed either from the homepage or from the side-menu navigation area.

  • Trade by Product (Canadian and U.S. Data)
  • Trade by Industry (Canadian data only).

Both modules feature two main elements:

  • a Main Panel where you enter your choices and generate reports or graphs (appearing below).

  • an Advanced Features area where, provided you have obtained your free Strategis password, you can login and manage your own personalised report groups that you can run again later against updated data. This is accessed through an icon below the main panel.

Some reports may contain hyperlinks that upon clicking allow you to immediately drilldown to another level of detail, e.g. clicking on United States will shown a breakdown by state (provided the name is hyperlinked).

Help and other information (such as definitions and methodology) can be accessed either through the header or the side-menu.
