The Bellanet International Secretariat is pleased to announce that ITrain is one of six education-related ICT projects that will be profiled at the upcoming Southern Africa Economic Summit 2001 in Durban, South Africa, a meeting hosted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in cooperation with the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

ITrain is a collaborative project to develop computer and Internet training courses and support materials for participatory ICT training. Development partners can use, adapt, and translate the materials; or develop their own ITrain manuals from a template and add them to the collection. All the materials are free and are licenced as Open Content to encourage adaptation for local settings. Bellanet coordinates the project and manages the ITrain website.

ITrain was among six projects chosen by the Education Steering Committee of the WEF's Digital Divide Initiative. Riff Fullan, Bellanet's Senior Program Specialist, will present ITrain on June 8 in Durban at a panel session entitled, "How Can ICT Promote Development — Learning from Education and Healthcare Initiatives." In addition to the session in Durban, the Digital Divide Initiative will create opportunities in its schedule of regional meetings for media coverage, networking, and partnership discussions over a period of six months.
