Research on Knowledge Systems (RoKS)

"Research on Knowledge Systems" (RoKS) is an exploratory effort launched by IDRC in June 2001. Its objectives are to explore, from a developing-country standpoint, the ways in which knowledge is produced, communicated, and applied to development problems, and to investigate the policy and institutional frameworks that govern this process.

RoKS focuses on policy issues in the field of science, research, and knowledge, helping to cast light on cross-cutting issues in the areas of environment and natural resource management, information and communication technologies for development, and social and economic equity.

Summary Report: An Africa-Canada-United Kingdom Exploration 2005-03-25

The workshop that took place at Canada House, London, from 31 January to 1 February 2005 brought together a wide cross-section of participants to seek ways to better understand how to strengthen capacity building for science and technology in Africa. From the beginning, the meeting was conceived as a learning exercise designed to provoke policy action. From this point of view, SciDev.Net posted some of the results, interviews, and presentations to engage a wider audience that could not be accommodated at the meeting venue.
