Message from the minister
I am very pleased to welcome you to the website of the Canada Economic
Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec.
The Government of Canada wants to provide its citizens with an economy which

This is why Canada Economic Development, through its 14 regional business
offices, supports SMEs in leveraging their ingenuity and creativity. Together
with community stakeholders and their government partners, our programs and
services help SMEs develop and market new products, thus strengthening their
growth.
By working together with small and medium-sized business men and women,
Canada Economic Development plays an active role in revitalizing the regions and

Minister's Biography
Riding: Brossard–La Prairie (Quebec)
Jacques Saada was first elected as a Member of Parliament in June 1997 and
has served as Deputy Whip of the Government, as Vice-Chair of the Standing
Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, and as a member of the Board of
Internal Economy.
From 1998 to 2000, he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Solicitor General of
Canada.
In 2003, he was named Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and
Minister responsible for Democratic Reform.
In 2004, he was named Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada
for the Regions of Quebec and Minister responsible for the Francophonie.
From 1998 to December 2003, he was Chair of the Canadian Section of the
Canada-United States Permanent Joint Board on Defence.
Prior to his election to the House of Commons, he worked as a teacher and
school administrator in Quebec and France, as a lecturer in translation at
Concordia University, as a consultant with the Canadian International
Development Agency and as an advisor to the Minister of Fisheries and
Oceans.
Mr. Saada was CEO of B&B; Translations from 1978 to 1993 and president of
the consulting firm Polytrad Ltée from 1977 to 1997. He also served as chair of
the St. Lawrence Protestant School Board from 1987 to 1990.
Mr. Saada has a bachelor's degree in applied linguistics from the Université
du Québec à Montréal, a Quebec teacher’s certificate, and a diploma in
translation from McGill University. He is married and has four
children.
