VAC Partners with Alzheimer Society
To help veterans and their families, Veterans Affairs Canada is partnering with the Alzheimer Society of Canada in a registry program that helps people with Alzheimer Disease return home safely if they wander.
People who are registered with the Alzheimer Wandering Registry Program are given an identification bracelet. If the registered person is reported missing or found wandering, the number on the bracelet allows police to access the registry's national database and quickly determine where the person lives and who to contact.
As of July 2002, Veterans Affairs Canada pays the $25 registration fee on behalf of clients who identify themselves on the program's registration form as a veteran who currently receives benefits from our Department. People who are registered with the program will receive an identification bracelet, identification cards, and a caregiver handbook.
If you would like a registration form or more information on the registry program, you can contact your nearest Veterans Affairs Canada District Office or your local Alzheimer Society office. You also can call the Society's toll-free telephone number (1-800-616-8816) or visit their Web site at www.alzheimer.ca
