The International Map of the World (IMW) series provided uniform coverage of the World at the scale of 1:1 000 000 according to United Nations specifications. These maps were designed to meet the needs of specialists in many scientific disciplines as well as those of general users and serve as bases for thematic maps of diverse subjects. They were produced between 1956 and 1987. The series is metric and employs the Lambert Conformal Conic Projection. Canadian coverage of the series is complete and includes 69 maps produced by Geomatics Canada, Natural Resources Canada, and 5 maps of common Canada/United States boundary areas prepared by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
