Human Rights, Democratization and Good Governance

Human rights, democracy and good governance (HRDG) are important in their own right for the security and fulfillment of individual children, women and men. Together, they create the framework of society within which the development efforts of its members can be effective and sustainable. They promote Canada's three foreign policy objectives as defined in Canada in the World, and they stand as one of the 6 programming priorities that guide CIDA's development work.

This webpage is intended to provide a range of information and resources in development work. It provides three openings to guide visitors exploring this thematic area. The first is descriptive, with information on CIDA's HRDG Policy and projects. The second gives access to CIDA documents, which aim at clarifying specific issues and concepts or at learning from experience. The third section provides key links to similar documentation from CIDA's international and Canadian partner organizations.
