Age, 1996

The age breakdown used for these maps was determined by logical breaks for age of the population. The group referred to as Youth is that segment of the population under 15 years of age. This group represents those who attend school and have not yet entered the job market. The group 15 to 34 years of age is referred to as the Early Working Years segment of the population. They are in the years of entering the labour force, childbearing and rearing. The segment of population between 35 and 64 years of age are referred to as the group in the Later Working Years. They have, for the most part, finished their childbearing years and are moving towards retirement. The Golden years, between 65 and 74 years of age, are the years when most people are able to retire and most still enjoy good health. The Oldest Old are those 75 years of age and over, and many in this group experience declining health.
