Canada Wall Map [Bilingual]

This large wall map emphasizes, with colour, the provinces and territories. Their boundaries are current to April 1, 1999. In addition, both the international boundaries and the boundary delineating Canada's 200-mile fishing limit are shown. The map's projection, a vertical near-side perspective, provides an interesting three-dimensional view of Canada. It effectively shows Canada's geographic relationship with other nations of the Northern Hemisphere. A digital relief shading was used to show the physiography of the country. The map depicts the location and name of each of Canada's National Parks as well as the names of physical features. Also shown is a large selection of populated places.

Relief Map of Canada.

The map shows Canada with hypsometrically-tinted (full colour) digital shaded relief in a vertical near-side perspective projection. This map projection provides an interesting three-dimensional view of Canada, and the globe, as if seen from space. Ocean areas show bathymetric tints. Also included are three inset maps providing additional information on Canadian land cover: Physiographic Regions, Drainage Basins, and Vegetation Cover. All data on the map are current to the mid to late 1990's. Other features depicted on the map are Canada's 38 National Parks, a selection of populated places and major Canadian transportation routes. Major physical features including mountain ranges, peaks, and spot elevations are identified. All geographical names are shown in their official form. All official Canadian, provincial, and surrounding international boundaries are shown, including the boundary for the new territory of Nunavut and the boundary delineating Canada's exclusive 200-mile fishing and economic zone.

This map shows the distribution of land cover types across Canada, based on satellite data obtained in 1995. The images were acquired by an Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Land cover plays an important role in many processes affecting climate. The land cover map contains 31 land cover classes: 12 forest; 3 shrub land; 6 barren land and grassland; 7 developed land types including cropland; mosaic and built-up areas; and 2 non-vegetation land cover types.
