At U of T, we work hard to provide solutions that help employees meet the many challenges of balancing work, personal and family life. Here’s a listing of the types of programs and support that are available:

Flexible work arrangements

University policies and practices are designed to provide flexibility for those with responsibility for family members or other life issues. While they vary according to the relevant collective agreement or employee group, examples include:
  • Flexible working hours
  • Part-time status for a defined period
  • Unpaid leaves of absence
  • Self-funded leaves
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP)Offers free short-term confidential counselling to eligible employees for their personal, family and work-related problems.
  • Family Care OfficeProvides confidential information, referral, guidance, educational programming and advocacy on a broad range of family matters, including child care, elder care, maternity/parental leave, parenting, schools and children’s programs.
  • Child Care CentresOn campus childcare centres staffed by professionally qualified early childhood educators give priority to UofT families.
  • Emergency Back Up Child CareU of T has partnered with kids + COMPANY to provide an Emergency Backup Childcare programme for children ages 0 - 12.
