1. Why is the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) offering Internet service?
The Internet is a cost-effective and efficient way to provide information to the public. The CRA's Internet initiative is designed to:

  • give users access to the CRA's public information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • reduce publishing costs by providing information electronically
  • support the federal government's efforts to use the Internet to make its services more affordable, accessible, and responsive.

2. Why can't I request information from the CRA by email?
At this time, the CRA Web site is primarily an information service. It provides electronic access to the majority of the Agency's public information holdings, including forms, publications, and guides.

The CRA cannot respond to program or service enquiries received by email because of security and confidentiality requirements. Please phone, visit, or write us with program-specific questions, such as enquiries on GST, income tax, and payroll source deductions.

We do, however, welcome comments and suggestions on our Internet service. You can email them to comments@smtp1.ccra-adrc.gc.ca.

3. Are the consolidated statutes and regulations, such as Income Tax Act, on the CRA Web site?
The CRA does not publish any consolidated statutes and regulations, either in print or electronically.

However, the Department of Justice Canada offers consolidated statutes and regulations on its Web site, including the Income Tax Act.

The consolidated statutes and regulations are also available through some commercial publishers, including Carswell, CCH, CICA, and Ernst & Young.

4. I have trouble reading hyperlink text in some colours. Can the colour be changed?
Most browsers let you set your own preferences when it comes to font style, size, and colour.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer®:
    • Click on "View" in your browser's top toolbar. A drop-down menu will appear.
    • At the bottom of the drop-down menu, select "Internet Options." A window will appear.
    • In the bottom right-hand corner, click on "Accessibility."
    • Under the "Formatting" heading, select "Ignore colors specified on Web page."
    • Click on "OK" to close the "Accessibility" window.
    • Click on "OK" to close the "Internet Options" window.

This will disable the red font and set it to the default colour, which is blue.

  • Netscape™:
    • Click on "Edit" in your browser's top toolbar. A drop-down menu will appear.
    • At the bottom of the drop-down menu, click on "Preferences." A window will appear.
    • In the left-hand menu, click on "Appearance" and then on "Colors."
    • To adjust the colour of text, background, unvisited links, and visited links, click on the colour box beside any of these four categories and choose a colour.
    • Click on "Always use my colors, overriding document."
    • Click on "OK" to close "Preferences" window.

This will let the colours you've chosen override the colours specified on our Web pages.
