Sciences

You may not associate science with taxes but the scientists at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) are involved in some fascinating work!

In the Laboratory and Scientific Services Directorate, our people work on handwriting identification to determine if signatures are genuine. Scientists also have techniques to link documents to printing and copying devices such as laser printers, photocopiers, and fax machines.

It's real detective work. Charred or damaged documents sometimes need to be deciphered, or we may have to determine if documents are altered or fraudulent.

Our scientists have played an important role over the years in solving many cases, saving Canadian taxpayers thousands of dollars.

The CRA boasts one of the oldest scientific operations in Canada. Training is available. If you have a science background, consider the science opportunities with the CRA!

Additionally, the CRA programs and internal operations impact on the environment in the use of paper, the procurement of goods and services, the use of our facilities, lands, and other. In the Sustainable Development (SD) Division, Real Property and Sustainable Development Directorate, our people are dedicated to overseeing the environmental and sustainable development program for the CRA.

Our specialists direct programs such as environmental assessments, halocarbons, and water quality to minimize the effect that CRA's vast operations have on the environment. They also provide tools and education to sensitize and enable managers and employees to think and act sustainably in their daily activities and the decisions that they make.
