Revenue Minister Caplan announces appointment to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency Board of Management

Ottawa, March 28, 2003... Elinor Caplan, Minister of National Revenue, today announced the appointment of James Hewitt to the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency Board of Management. Mr. Hewitt, a Certified Management Accountant, was nominated by the Province of British Columbia.

While the Minister of National Revenue retains full accountability to Parliament and to Canadian citizens for all CCRA activities, the Board of Management is responsible for overseeing the organization and administration of the Agency and the management of its resources.

"The Board of Management is a vital part of the Agency," said Minister Caplan. "It brings the best of private sector practices to the CCRA."

The Board comprises 15 members, 11 of whom are nominated by the provinces and territories and appointed by Governor in Council.
