Mr. Poloz leads a diverse group of professionals responsible for assessing economic,
political, environmental and technical performance risk, conducting EDC’s international
relations, and managing EDC’s information centre. In September 2005, Mr. Poloz took
on a broader portfolio, which now includes EDC’s Corporate Communications and External
Relations, and Strategic Planning and Corporate Performance teams.
Prior to joining Export Development Canada (EDC) in 1999, Mr. Poloz was managing
editor of The International Bank Credit Analyst. He also spent 14 years with the Bank of
Canada, occupying a number of senior positions, including chief of the Research
Department. He has been a visiting scholar at the Economic Planning Agency in Tokyo, as
well as at the International Monetary Fund in Washington. He has served on the editorial
board of the Canadian Journal of Economics, on the executive council of the Canadian
Economics Association, and as President of the Ottawa Economics Association. Mr. Poloz
holds a PhD in economics from the University of Western Ontario.
