  Talking to Each Other

We believe in harnessing the power of people -- building success on their ingenuity, ideas and passions. This means we need forums, formal and informal, to encourage the free exchange of ideas, to create an environment where responsible risk taking is rewarded. It means talking to each other!

We do that in traditional and not-so-traditional ways, such as:
  • our employee magazine Link (which receives top marks from employees)
  • an annual employee conference
  • an up-to-the-minute Intranet site "LiveWire"
  • regular luncheon meetings which brings the President together with employees from all areas of EDC
  • "Sounding Board" a confidential forum for employees to raise work-related concerns
  • "Entrepreneur Inc." where employees are encouraged to share product, program or process ideas
  • the annual Employee Opinion Survey, an evaluation tool for management (over 90% of employees responded in 2001)

But perhaps most important are our shared goals. We have a very clear performance management program involving three key stages: planning, managing and appraising. During the planning stage, employees meet with their managers and identify goals and objectives. The managing stage involves making sure everyone stays on track and works toward those goals. This includes mentoring, coaching and providing timely feedback. The appraisal process the final step where we look at what's been accomplished and how it supports the annual performance appraisals and salary review process.
