  Caring Environment

Encouraging and supporting a balance between work and home for our employees is a key priority at EDC.

Here are some of the ways we care and share:
  • Employee Assistance Program that provides confidential counseling and information
  • Scholarships for qualifying children of employees
  • Sounding Board: a confidential forum for employees to raise ‘employee satisfaction’ issues
  • Recreation and Social committee which organizes employee events during the year.
  • Parenting Committee that provides a forum where employees can share information, news, resources and successful parenting strategies. The committee also holds a number of 'lunch and learn' events covering a wide variety of topics ranging from preparing wills, caring for aging parents, redirecting children's behaviour and saving for post-secondary education. The committee also sponsors seminars and workshops for the children of employees such as Babysitting training, First Aid for Preteens, On My Own, and Just for Girls.
  • In-house fitness centre
  • Subsidies for fitness memberships at regional offices
  • Flex hours

To ensure we stay on track, we survey employees regularly so we can measure and respond to "employee satisfaction". These results allow us to identify how what employees are feeling and thinking. So far, our employees give the company top marks and their overall "satisfaction" has improved year over year since EDC started the survey in 1996.
