Applying to ABC

A key component of your application package to Aboriginal Business Canada (ABC) is a form called a Statement of Intent. By filling out this form, you will provide us with necessary information to assess your basic eligibility for financial support.

It is important to answer all the questions on this form completely. (Use attachments if the space provided is insufficient.)

Include any additional information that supports your proposal, such as business studies, market studies, financial statements and relevant industry information.

You can complete your Statement of Intent online or download a PDF version that you can print out and return to us. If you require assistance in completing the form, please contact us.

IMPORTANT: In addition to the Statement of Intent, you must include the following supporting documents about each of the principal owners of the company in your application package:

  • a copy of documentation that provides proof of Aboriginal ancestry (see Applicant Eligibility Policy for a list of documents ABC will accept);
  • a copy of documentation (i.e. a bank statement) that provides proof that you meet the minimum equity requirements to undertake the project you're proposing; and
  • a résumé that highlights experience, training and/or education related to your business activity.

For existing businesses: we also require a copy of your most recent financial statements (up to three years, if available).

For youth applicants (ages 18–35): we also require a copy of documentation (i.e. a birth certificate) that provides proof of your age.

You are ready to submit your application to ABC if you have:

  • discussed your project with a development officer;
  • completed your Statement of Intent; and
  • compiled all necessary supporting documents.

Remember: Failure to provide us with a complete application package will cause processing delays.
