Gravimetric Standing Committee
The group held an open session to discuss any gravimetric issues that were of concern, but not on the agenda. The purpose of the session was to solicit agenda items for next years Canadian Forum on Trade Measurement (CFTM) and resolve issues that required immediate attention.
- One participant requested information on the turnaround time for the approval of scales tested in the lab. He stated that he has been waiting approximately 8 months for the approval of one of his company’s scales and feels that this is an excessive amount of time. M.Maranda indicated that Measurement Canada’s (MC) service standard for turn around time on device approvals is 90 days. He indicated that MC is currently not meeting that standard and that MC will be addressing this in 2003 to ensure that the 90 day target is met.
- Another participant informed the group that he had purchased US Class F (NIST 105-1) field standards from a US supplier and questioned why he could not get them calibrated by our Calibration Services Laboratory (CSL) for the purpose of inspecting class III scales. He indicated that the lab will supply a statement of accuracy, however they will not adjust the standards. N. Dupuis-Désormeaux indicated that the US Class F standards did not meet Canadian requirements (OIML - M1) for standards used in the inspection of class III scales, stating that US Class F standards have a tolerance that is twice that of an M1 standard. M.Maranda and R. Magnan confirmed that the CSL will not adjust standards belonging to accredited companies that are out of tolerance due to being of the wrong class.
