(Draft) Voluntary Periodic Device Certification Program:
In April 2006, Measurement Canada will implement the Voluntary Device Periodic Certification Program. The periodic inspections and certifications will be performed by accredited and registered organizations.
This voluntary program is implemented as an interim measure until the Weights and Measures Act is modified to be able to render device periodic inspections and certifications mandatory which means that traders will be under the legal obligation to submit their devices for inspection at prescribed intervals. The implementation of a voluntary program will allow for the development of the necessary infrastructure to sustain the mandatory program, namely the implementation and maintenance of an accredited and registered organization network on which Measurement Canada counts to provide inspection services.
Please consult the draft “Guidelines for authorized service providers, ” the draft brochure “Periodic Certification of Your Devices: the Rules”, and the draft verification indicator sticker.
Please note that the verification indicator sticker (inspection sticker) is a draft and that the relative dimensions of the letters and numbers could be modified.
You are invited to provide your comments by December 23, 2005, in writting to:
