V-07 Increment of Registration for Volumetric Liquid Meters
Date: 1991-09-30 1. The purpose of this bulletin is to clarify requirements regarding the finest increment of registration for volumetric liquid meters and for their integral or remote mechanical or electromechanical printers. This bulletin does not apply to meters 8 inches or larger. 2. Sections 126 and 128 of the Weights and Measures Regulations prescribe that the means of registration for a device must be appropriate for its intended service, installation and use, and the finest graduation must permit an adequate determination of accuracy. 3. Parts 1 and 2 below set out the maximum values of finest increment that will comply with these Regulations. Part 1 - Mechanical registers with mechanical or electromechanical printers 4. The maximum value of the finest increment of registration on mechanical volumetric liquid meters shall be as follows: 4.1 Devices with an approved capacity of 1350 litres/minute or more; these devices are found mainly on loading racks and are intended to be used to measure quantities of 2250 litres or more.
Primary Indicator: 1 litre 4.2 Devices with an approved capacity of more than 500 litres/minute but less than 1350 litres/minute; these devices are found mainly on loading racks and are intended to be used to measure quantities of 180 litres or more.
Primary Indicator: 1 litre 4.3 Devices with an approved capacity of more than 115 litres/minute up to and including 500 litres/minute; these devices are normally found on loading racks, mounted on trucks, or used as truck refuellers and are intended to be used to deliver quantities of 180 litres or more.
Primary Indicator: 0.1 litre 4.4 Motor fuel dispensers and high speed dispensers with an approved capacity of more than 20 litres/minute up to and including 115 litres/minute;
Primary Indicator: 0.01 litre 5. The same quantity indicated by more than one means of registration must be in agreement with the limits allowed by section 139 of the Regulations. Part 2 - Electromechanical remote printer connected to an electronic or mechanical register 6. Some electromechanical printers cannot be set to print to the same increment as the registers to which they are connected. At the normal operating rate these printers cannot accept the flow of pulses sent by the electronic register or the pulser of the mechanical register. 6.1 Consequently, the finest increment of registration of an electromechanical printer used in conjunction with an electronic or a mechanical register may exceed the values indicated in Part 1, but shall not exceed those indicated hereafter provided that the device is used exclusively for selling, and provided that the printer is set so that "rounding off" of quantities is always in favour of the customer. 6.2 Devices with an approved capacity of more than 500 litres/minute; Remote Printer: 10 litres 6.3 Devices with an approved capacity of more than 20 litres/minute up to and including 500 litres/minute; Remote Printer: 1 litre 7. In the case of electromechanical printers, section 139 of the Regulations may be contravened in some instances, but any discrepancy will be in favour of the customer. 8. For additional information:
