1.0 Scope

These specifications apply to the Gallagher® pFC and pFC-F flow conditioners manufactured by Savant Measurement Corporation of Kingwood, Texas, U.S.A.

2.0 Authority

These specifications are issued under the authority of sections 12 and 18 of the Electricity and Gas Inspection Regulations.

3.0 Description

The pFC and pFC-F models are designed to reduce disturbances in flows of natural gas and other hydrocarbon fluids caused by upstream piping design configurations. Both models are intended for use with measurement devices such as orifice meters, and consist of a perforated plate placed inside the upstream metering tube. The pFC has a pin mount design, and the pFC-F has a flange mount design.

4.0 Design and Construction

4.1 The pFC and pFC-F models consist of a plate with 27 bore holes arranged in a symmetrical circular 3-8-16 hole pattern. The dimensions of the bore holes are a function of the published inside pipe diameter (D). The characteristics of importance and their associated quality criteria shall be as follows, each of which is identified by a corresponding letter label in Figures 1 and 2:

a) perforated plate thickness of 0.24D - 0.26D

b) 3 holes on a pitch circle diameter of 0.15D - 0.155D. The hole diameters shall be such that the sum of the bore areas is 3 percent - 5 percent of the D area.

c) 8 holes on a pitch circle diameter of 0.44D - 0.48D. The hole diameters shall be such that the sum of the bore areas is 19 percent - 21 percent of the D area.

d) 16 holes on a pitch circle diameter of 0.81D - 0.85D. The hole diameters shall be such that the sum of the bore areas is 25 percent - 29 percent of the D area.

e) pin indentation on the outside edge of the plate (to receive the set screw).

f) pFC-F flange thickness of 3.18 mm for 25 and 27 mm nominal pipe sizes (0.125" for 2-inch and 3-inch nominal pipe sizes), and 6.35 mm for 103 mm nominal pipe size (0.250 for 4-inch nominal pipe size).

4.2 The default manufacturing material is 300 series stainless steel. The pFC and pFC-F plates may also be manufactured from various other materials.

5.0 Installation and Use

5.1 The pFC and pFC-F flow conditioners may be used to reduce gas flow disturbances in measurement installations involving orifice meters. The installation of the pFC shall be in accordance with the installation requirements of section 5.2 and Figure 3. The installation of the pFC-F shall be in accordance with the installation requirements of section 5.3 and Figure 4.

5.2 The pFC flow conditioner shall be installed using a pin mount design in one of two upstream lengths (L1) as follows:

a) For a total upstream length (L1) of at least 17D, defined as the straight piping distance from meter run valve or piping disturbance to orifice plate,

      i) The total length of (L2), the distance from flow conditioner's pin location to orifice plate, shall range from 5.1D - 11.1D.

ii) The total length of (L3), the distance from meter run valve or piping disturbance to flow conditioner's pin location, shall be at least 4D.

      b) For a total upstream length (L1) of at least 10D, defined as the straight piping distance from meter run valve or piping disturbance to orifice plate,
          i) The total length of (L2), the distance from flow conditioner’s pin location to orifice plate, shall range from 5.1D - 6.1D, and,

ii) The total length of (L3), the distance from meter run valve or piping disturbance to flow conditioner’s pin location, shall be at least 4D.

The total length of (L4), the distance from the blow-down to the flow conditioner’s pin location, shall be at least 3D.

5.3 The pFC-F flow conditioner shall be installed between a set of raised face flanges in one of two upstream lengths (L1) as follows:

      a) For a total upstream length (L1) of at least 17D, defined as the straight piping distance from meter run valve or piping disturbance to orifice plate,
          i) The total length of (L2), the distance from flow conditioner upstream face to orifice plate, shall range from 4.8D - 11.0D, and,

ii) The total length of (L3), the distance from meter run valve or piping disturbance to flow conditioner upstream face, shall be at least 4D.

      b) For a total upstream length (L1) of at least 10D, defined as the straight piping distance from meter run valve or piping disturbance to orifice plate,
          i) The total length of (L2), the distance from flow conditioner upstream face to orifice plate, shall range from 4.8D - 6.0D, and,

ii) The total length of (L3), the distance from meter run valve or piping disturbance to flow conditioner upstream face, shall be at least 4D.

The total length of (L4), the distance from the blow-down valve to the flow conditioner’s upstream face, shall be at least 3D.

      6.0 Verification and Reverification

6.1 Before being installed for use in any orifice meter assembly, pFC and pFC-F flow conditioners shall be verified to ensure that all design and construction requirements specified in section 4 of this specification have been met. Acceptance shall be indicated by placing a verification mark near the edge of the downstream face of the plate.

6.2 The pFC and pFC-F flow conditioners shall have their applicable published pipe size and schedule marked on the outside edge of the plate. If there is no pipe schedule available or applicable, the plate shall be marked with the actual pipe size and pipe inside diameter.

6.3 For orifice metering applications, the installation of pFC and pFC-F flow conditioners shall be in accordance with section 5 of this specification, and shall be verified before the orifice meter assembly is installed or reinstalled for use.

6.4 The pFC and pFC-F flow conditioners shall be reverified for compliance with the requirements of this specification at intervals corresponding to the reverification period of the orifice meter.
