Canadian Water Utilities Trade Sector Water Meter Survey
A detailed water meter survey was conducted at forty eight Canadian Water Utilities to determine the current metrological practices in this trade sector. The utilities were selected on the basis that they purported to use water meters to measure some or all of their customers water consumption. The utilities in the survey account for approximately 25 % of the estimated number of waters meters in Canada. It should be noted that the most recent data indicates that over half of the municipalities in Canada do not measure the water that is delivered to their customers. A complete list of those utilities that participated in the survey is shown in Appendix I (note: for edited version - the names have been removed). Additional information for this report was gathered from a multitude of various sources including extensive website searches and conversations with representatives from governments, meter manufacturers and various utilities throughout North America, Asia and Oceania.
