The provision of additional frequencies to ensure the continued and orderly growth of the aeronautical mobile en-route service has been the subject of studies in the Department. The outcome of these studies led to negotiations with the American authorities which culminated in Canada and the United States jointly adopting a 25 kHz interim channelling arrangement for the aeronautical mobile (R) en-route band of 128.8125-132.0125 MHz. This arrangement became effective on February 14, 1978 and provides for the equitable sharing of the 25 kHz channels by Canada and the United States.
