The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has taken the following course of action on June 29, 2005
relating to the screening of the Proposal by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited for the continued operation of the Nuclear Research Universal (NRU) Reactor at Chalk River Laboratories.
The authority may exercise any power or perform any duty or function with respect to the project because, after taking into consideration the screening report and taking into account the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures, the authority is of the opinion that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:
- fish and/or their habitat
- water quality
A follow-up program to verify the accuracy of the environmental assessment and/or determine the effectiveness of any measures taken to mitigate the
adverse environmental effects is considered appropriate for this
project for the following reason: Nature of Project.
The estimated start and end dates of the follow-up program are December 31, 2005
and December 31, 2010, respectively.
