3. Available Information
- 3.1 What type of information will the Office
of Petroleum Price Information gather?
- The Office of Petroleum Price Information will provide Canadians with
current information on crude oil and petroleum product prices and single-window
access to consumer information and relevant government programs in
areas such as energy efficiency and rebates. All of this information will
help Canadians to make decisions about their energy choices and usage.
- 3.2 How will the Office of Petroleum Price
Information gather its information?
- In a collaborative effort with the provinces and territories, the Office
will build on information already being gathered to ensure data consistency
at a national level.
Many provinces already have information Web sites on fuel prices and energy saving
ideas. The Province of Ontario's Ministry of Energy and Nova Scotia's Department
of Energy Web sites are two examples of provincial governments taking a proactive
role in getting information to Canadians on fuel prices and energy saving tools.
The work being done by provincial governments will complement the efforts of
the Office of Petroleum Price Information in getting the most current information
out to Canadians.
- 3.3 How will the Office of Petroleum Price
Information fill any information gaps?
- When any information gaps are identified, the Office will conduct new
federal surveys to complement any existing provincial and private-sector
activities. The Office will ask industry to volunteer information.
