EnerGuide

ON CAMERA NARRATION:

Buying a vehicle can be a difficult and costly decision. However choosing the most energy efficient vehicle that meets your every day needs you can save fuel , save money and help the environment.

VOICE-OVER:

Individual Canadians are being challenged to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by one tonne. Buying a fuel-efficient vehicle is part of a solution. It helps reduce vehicle emissions that impact our health, the environment and contribute to climate change.

There are many tools available to help consumers make informed choices when it comes to fuel efficiency. For example, the EnerGuide for Vehicles fuel consumption label can help you with your vehicle purchase decision. It is displayed on the window of every new car and light truck sold in Canada. It provides fuel consumption ratings and the estimated annual fuel cost of the vehicle.

Fuel consumption ratings are based on standardized testing and certification methods.

If you don't see the EnerGuide label, ask the dealer about the fuel consumption of the vehicle or better yet, ask to see the fuel consumption ratings of the vehicle in the Fuel Consumption Guide.

The information on the EnerGuide label is easy to understand.

These numbers indicate the city and highway fuel consumption ratings in litres per hundred kilometres and miles per imperial gallon.

The dollar value inside the fuel pump, provides an estimate of the vehicles annual fuel cost. It is based on the distanced travelled of 20,000 kilometres, 55% in the city and 45% on the highway, it also takes into account the type of fuel your vehicle uses.

Each vehicle has its own set of fuel consumption ratings. Compare the EnerGuide label on new vehicles to identify the one that is most fuel-efficient.

Both the size of the engine and the vehicle's options can both affect its fuel efficiency. Air conditioning, for example, can increase fuel consumption in city driving by up to 20%.

For more information consult the "Fuel Consumption Guide" produced annually by Natural Resources Canada.

The guide will help you compare the fuel consumption of new cars and light trucks sold in Canada each year. In addition the annual EnerGuide Awards from Natural Resources Canada recognize the manufacturers of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in nine different classes.

It's up to all of us to make a difference. By choosing the most fuel-efficient vehicle that meets your everyday needs, you can save fuel, save money and do your part to help the environment.
