Review of Social Insurance Number (SIN) and Data
Matching Policies |
As you may be aware, the Treasury
Board Secretariat is initiating a review of the use of the Social Insurance
Number (SIN) and data matching across government. These portions of the Policy on Privacy and Data Protection have not
undergone a significant review or revision since their implementation in
1989.
To this end, Jim Judd, Secretary
of the Treasury Board, has issueda letter addressed to deputy ministers and
heads of institutions. You will note that we are requesting the assistance of
all federal institutions in identifying all uses of the SIN across
government. To assist in this task, we have provided institutions with a
standard template and instructions for completing it.
As ATIP coordinator you may be asked
by your Deputy Minister or Head of institution to coordinate the responses
within your respective institutions. As stated in the letter and the
instructions, it is imperative that all uses of the SIN be identified in
order to compile an accurate and reliable inventory of SIN uses.
Any questions on the letter or the
template, may be directed at Terry Murray, (613) 941-4462 or
to Charles Taillefer, (613) 957-2562.
