Audit and Accountability Bureau

The Audit and Accountability Bureau (AAB) is accountable for leading Health Canada's responsibilities with respect to values and ethics, in addition to the traditional audit functions.

The audit functions of the Bureau are closely involved with the Departmental Audit and Evaluation Committee, which provides leadership and guidance to the audit function. The Committee approves audit plans and audit reports, and monitors the implementation of the corrective actions.

The mandate of the Audit and Accountability Bureau (AAB) is comprised of:

  • Leading the "values and ethics" initiative for the Department;
  • Being administratively responsible for the Policy on Internal Disclosure of Information Concerning Wrongdoing in the Workplace;
  • Administering the service of the Ombudsman;
  • Providing an overview role in accountability;
  • Performing internal audit functions;
  • Performing special investigations; and
  • Liaising with the Office of the Auditor General, the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development, and other central agencies on audit-related issues.
