The Third Edition of the Atlas of Canada was published as a bound volume in 1957. It was larger and more comprehensive than previous editions, consisting of 108 plates, all of which were maps. It benefited from a broader base of knowledge than its predecessors, and so had many more maps of social and economic activities. However, it shared with the earlier editions a focus on mapping populated places and major cities. The Atlas’ maps are at various scales, but its large size meant many maps could be shown at 1: 5 000 000.
