The main purpose of this plate is to show the changes in the detail and type of geographical information which can be shown at various scales beginning with the largest scale (1:14 400), and ending with the smallest (1:4 055 040). At the same time the portions of all but the first and last of the maps reproduced here illustrate the principal national map series produced by the Surveys and Mapping Branch of the Department of Mines and Technical Surveys [now Natural Resources Canada] as of 1958.
