Statement by the Chief Commissioner on the passing of Coretta Scott King

Ottawa – January 31, 2006 – Chief Commissioner Mary Gusella today issued the following statement on the passing of Coretta Scott King:

"All Canadians will be saddened by the passing of Coretta Scott King. Mrs. King made a remarkable contribution to the advancement of civil rights in the United States and human rights in general.

"Mrs. King and her husband, Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., had a dream for all of us.

"The Commission finds great inspiration in the lives of people like Coretta Scott King. Her death today is a time to appreciate her dedication and her accomplishments."
