Important note...

As of January 1, 2006, Quebec-based employers and employees are contributing to the new Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP) which pays benefits for maternity, paternity, adoption or parental leave. As a result, they will contribute less into the EI fund, since the EI Program will no longer pay new claims for maternity or parental benefits in Quebec.

This means that the rate for employers participating in the EI Premium Reduction Program with some or all employees in Quebec had to be recalculated, based on their reduced EI contribution rate. To ensure that their savings would be the same as that for participants with employees elsewhere in Canada, the rate for employers with employees in Quebec is now lower.

The revised premium rates will be sent in January to employers with employees only in Quebec.

Service Canada will be contacting employers that have employees in both Quebec and other provinces in the coming months with their revised premium rate. For more information, or to obtain your new premium rate, please call us toll free at 1 800 561-7923.

If you have any questions regarding remittances of your payroll deductions, please contact CRA at 1 800 959-5525.
