About us
What we do
- The Superannuation Sector is the primary office responsible
for the administration of the pension plan for federal public
service employees, the Public Service Superannuation Act
(PSSA).
- We also provide administrative support to the underwriters
responsible for several public service group benefit plans, Public
Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP), the Public Service Management
Insurance Plan (PSMIP), the Disability Insurance Plan (DI), and the
Post Retirement Life Insurance Plan (PRLIP).
About the PSSA
- Part I - terms and conditions of the registered defined benefit pension plan to which virtually all federal public servants are required to contribute.
- Part II - terms and conditions of the legislated life insurance plan, the Supplementary Death Benefit (SDB) which is applicable to most contributors mentioned above under Part I.

- Over 500 personnel located at three sites in Shediac, N.B.
- Over 271,000 active members to the pension plan
- Over 215,000 retired members from the pension plan
- Over 600,000 insurance accounts
- Fulfills over 500,000 service requests annually
- Handles over 888,000 pieces of mail annually
- Maintains approximately 540,000 files for active and retired members and their survivors
- Responsible for annual expenditures in excess of $4 billion from 5 public funds with balances exceeding $90 billion.
