Library's Thesaurus

The following list of terms are used by the School's Library cataloguer to describe the contents of publications in a consistent, comprehensive and concise manner.

Please contact library staff should you want guidance on how to use this tool.

Each term may be followed by:

• BT and NT: These labels indicate broader and narrower terms, respectively. They reflect the hierarchical nature of the descriptors (e.g. TRENDS is a broad term relative to DEMOGRAPHIC TRENDS).
  
  
• RT: Related terms are non-hierarchical relations which direct the users to alternative descriptors in the event that the initial term is conceptually inappropriate.
  
  
• SN: Scope notes are comments that provide additional information about the term.
