Manitoba Launches Small Business Week at the Home Based Business Trade Show
Winnipeg, Manitoba – The home-based business trade show kicked off this year's Small Business Week, October 16 to 22, in Manitoba, with the three levels of government celebrating the achievements of small and medium-sized businesses.
"Small Business Week recognizes the tremendous contribution that small and medium-sized enterprises make to the Canadian economy," said Reg Alcock, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for the Canadian Wheat Board, on behalf of Stephen Owen, Minister of Western Economic Diversification and Minister of State (Sport). "A successful 21 st century will be powered by the new ideas and innovations these entrepreneurs bring to the marketplace."
"Manitoba's small business sector continues to be the core economic driver of the province and we're committed to supporting small businesses through events like the Made in Manitoba and Home Based Business Trade Shows," said Minister of Industry, Economic Development and Mines, Jim Rondeau.
Home-based business owners and prospective entrepreneurs can get their business questions answered at the second annual "There's No Place Like Home... for Business" trade show taking place October 14-15 at the Hotel Fort Garry.
Hosted by the Manitoba Home Business Advisory Council, the trade show will feature approximately 30 booths comprised of tri-level government regulatory and information organizations, and private sector business service providers including financial, legal and accounting services.
Entrepreneurs who are successfully running a home-based business will be on hand to offer insights into the challenges and opportunities a home business presents. Seminars covering a wide-range of topics, including start-up information, advertising, marketing strategies and tax planning, will be offered throughout the day.
"The Canada/Manitoba Business Service Centre looks forward to celebrating the launch of SBW with the home business sector," said Shannon Coughlin, General Manager of the Canada/Manitoba Business Service Centre. "We invite all small businesses to check out our comprehensive series of seminars during SBW, which will cover a variety of topics including marketing, trade development, and business management challenges."
The Manitoba Home Business Advisory Council's role is to educate, promote awareness and to play an advocate role for home businesses in Manitoba. The Canada/Manitoba Business Service Centre, federal, provincial and city officials, as well as private sector representatives, will work together to make the advisory group a hub for the thousands of home-based businesses.
