(Gatineau, Quebec, December 9, 2005) - The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is pleased to announce that Mrs. Wendy Tadros has been appointed as Acting Chair effective today.

"The TSB will miss Mr. Simpson's sage counsel and guidance. We wish him the very best as he embarks on his retirement," said Mrs. Tadros.

"I have truly enjoyed being a part of this organization," said Mr. Simpson, outgoing Acting Chair. "I believe that the work performed by the TSB has advanced transportation safety, not only in Canada, but around the world and I have the utmost confidence that Mrs. Tadros will provide excellent leadership," he added.

Mrs. Tadros is a lawyer with extensive experience in transportation who has served as a Member of the Board since July 1, 1996. "My focus will continue to be on promoting the changes that will eliminate safety deficiencies in the future," stated Mrs. Tadros.

The Board is composed of five members including a Chairperson. They are appointed to the Board by the Governor in Council.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
