Marine Communications and Traffic Services

The Marine Communications and Traffic Services - Basic Training is a complete 25-week course that teaches participants all aspects of marine communications, distress procedures, vessel traffic regulating and waterway management procedures.

Much of the MCTS training takes place in three simulators:

  • Marine Radio Operations Simulator (MROS),
  • Vessel Traffic Safety Simulator
  • Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems Simulator.

Simulators create the safest and most effective environments for developing and testing participants' situational analysis, decision-making and communications abilities.

Training for MCTS Officer is completed through on-the-job centre specific training at one of the MCTS centres across Canada.
