Marine Engineering

The following courses are available from the Marine Engineering Section:

  • Basic Analog Electronics 1 & ll - A course designed for engine room personnel who maintain modern electronic shipboard systems. Each module runs for two weeks.
  • Basic Digital Electronics - A two-week course designed for engine room personnel who maintain shipboard systems that incorporate modern electronic components.
  • Basic Electronic Technology - A three-week course designed for General Labour and Trades - Instrument Machine personnel.
  • Certification Upgrading Distance Education for Marine Engineers - A course for highly motivated engineers with a valid second-class certificate.
  • Fluid Power Level 1 - An eight-day course designed for individuals involved in the operation of fluid power systems.
  • Fundamentals of Series Six Programmable Controllers - A one-week course for engine room personnel working on the 1100 class vessels.
  • Introduction to Programmable Controllers - A one-week course for experienced engine room personnel.
  • Machine Level 1 - A three-week course for engine room personnel and other government employees who are required to operate or maintain shipboard machinery.
  • Marine Propulsion Plant Simulator Course Level 1 - A two-week course designed to provide instruction and basic training in propulsion plant operation and watch keeping.
  • Marine Propulsion Plant Simulator Course Level 2 - A two-week course designed to provide advanced coverage of propulsion plant condition monitoring and trending.
  • Outboard Motor Operation and Maintenance - A one-week course designed for small boat operators and crewmembers who require a better understanding of outboard operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Outboard Motor Overhaul - A two-week course designed for participants responsible for maintaining and repairing outboard motors.
  • Refrigeration - A two-week course designed for individuals responsible for the operation and routine maintenance of a refrigeration plant.
  • Small Diesel Engine Operation and Maintenance - A two-week course for operators or crewmen of small diesel engine vessels.
  • Small Diesel Engine Overhaul - A two-week course designed for individuals required to perform engine overhaul procedures.
  • Welding Level 1 - A two-week course designed for engine room personnel interested in learning or improving their welding skills up to the all-position capability.
